Pronouncing fashion designers names wrong, or avoiding saying them at all because you don't know how to pronounce their name? Not uncommon. I'm no designer but I've been called all sorts of things, especially in Ireland. Examples include: MaryLu, Lujuan, Lujan, Eugenie, Lujenne, Lushan, or just a plain old mumble. Yes, I've been mumbled before.
I was recently watching a video posted by chictopia on youtube about fashion designers pronunciation. It hilarious, watch it here. And I also stumbled upon this on ElleUK. I thought I'd share them with you, and I also picked out these ones at random!
Here you go..
Dries van Noten: dreese van know-ton
Les Chiffoniers: lay shif-on-ee-ay
Ann Demeulemeester: ann de-moo-le-mee-stir
Sinha Stanic: sin-er stan-ick
Maison Martin Margiela: may-zon mar-tan mar-jel-a
Jean Charles de Castelbajac: je-on sh-arl de cass-tell-bar-yak
Giuseppe Zanotti: ji-sep-ee za-not-ee
Osman Yousefzada: oz-man you-sef-zar-der
Comptoirs des Cottoniers: con-twar day cot-on-yay
Go to the Elle Link for an extensive list! It's interesting going through them all, cause you probably will find some names you've mispronounced in the past.

Pretty damn useful 'Lu Jane'!! My name is pretty straight forward haha.
LOL!! Thank you so much. Now I can stop making a fool of myself.
xo
Haha, designer names always confuse me. Sometimes I just try to say it with enough conviction so no one questions me. x
LOL. Luckily enough, French classes in college kept me from major faux pas.
haha...this is so funny. i do that all the time...now i can actually learn to pronounce them and impress people. and btw, i love your name. i've never heard of it before, but its so pretty!
xoxo,

Love this post, but just to correct you on one name:
Osman Yousefzada: oz-man you-sef-zar-der
The real pronounciation of this name is actually as it is. The name is of Arab origins. It's actually pronounced O-th-man or can be pronounced O-s-man (for those with an accent like Egyptians that pronounce the TH as S). Yousefzada is pronounced Yoo-sif-za-da. it is not Zarder at all, which is a common mistake non-arabs make by adding the Rs.
Thanks for the Guiseppe pronounciation.
My name is Belen, pronounced as it sounds and of course it is Spanish but in the Uk and Ireland I've been called everything from Belan, bolen and all kind of weird things. Also more than one teacher has sent me an email thinking I was a man because of the name... kind or strange...
Lu-Jane? How am i supposed to remember that ;)They kept calling me Celia when i was in college in France last year. Also sorry for not texting you once all week!
butter: I'm arabic too my dear ;) but he's uk afghani in origin!
sonic c!:i forgive you, hope you're getting on well.
