Music illiterate..

I need to get myself a Music and Opera for dummies book, because I'm quite music illiterate. It's funny that all my close friends here in Cork are very much into the music. Jen plays the piano and flute, Fu plays the piano and violin, Fi plays the violin, Eoin plays the guitar and piano, Cathal plays the double base, etc etc etc.. while me, I just dance? That's as music involved as I'll ever get, but I'd love to learn playing the guitar.

Anyway.. I was just reading about Victor & Rolf designing for the opera. The opera part doesn't really concern me much, but their creations are amazingly theatrical and dramatic....typical, and that's what I love about them.

V&R have collaborated with Robert Wilson and have created jaw dropping costumes for the upcoming production of "Der Freischutz” (The Freeshooter) by Carl Maria Von Weber at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden in Germany (May 30th).

The costumes have been bling blinged with more than one million Swarovski crystals to catch the light perfectly in every angle. V&R used organza, silk, satin and lurex in bright eye popping colours. They were inspired by traditional Germanic dress, including Dimdl and Lederhose fashioned from black neoprene.

I suggest you read the interview on The Moment, and watch the video behind the scenes on Dazed & Confused.. pretty damn amazing.

Oh how whimsical.. I think it's about time I went to the opera. Would someone like to go on a date? Perhaps we can dance outside the theatre and have McDonald's afterwards a la Sex and The City?

I read about this in the Times, yes. When you think about it-- fashion is such a good match for opera. It's all about over the top story lines, divas and DRAMA. Love their names, love their drama.

I love V&R too. They seem to have so much fun with their designs, and that's what fashion is all about x

OH God. This show is going to look absolutely amazing. I wish I could catch it in person. Someone needs to document the show.

great pics. music is my issue too these days, not exactly opera though. Dancing outside and finishing with a big Mac sounds way more fun. I wonder why...

I love Viktor and Rolf, designers that inject a healthy dose of theatrics and whimsy are far superior. Now that i think about it, fashion and opera are a good mix.
I know what you mean about the music illiteracy thing. I play Piano and clarinet on a highly competitive level so my constant playing of it and listening to exclusively classical music satiates my need for music. I know nothing about non classical music.
