Me and my patent red shoes

This is just a quickie. I have been world weary (case in point the picture below).
Photobucket

But now I want to show you my slick patent red shoes. They remind me of shiny shoes I used wear as a kid to school, those clarks ones with a key hidden in the soles. Except red. They also remind me of some past season Chloe shoes with lots of lovely straps and buckles.

What do you think of the purple/red clash? I always liked it but it can be a bone of contention for some people.

Act yourself

Apologies for lack of updates. We were really good there for a few weeks.

If any of you were at the Tate's No Soul for Sale, you may have picked up a bag by an artist called Laurence Payout. It is a lovely cloth shopper saying "I am now performing "Act yourself" by artist Laurence Payout."
I saw someone carrying it today and had to find out what it was about.

The SOS crew is doing this, acting ourselves. LJ is off wearing sheer and layering. Fiona is off collaging and dancing.
Posts soon.

The postcard project part deux

Last summer, I embarked on a bit of a mammoth project involving doodles, postcards and a lot of addresses. You can read about it here and see some of the pictures.

I'm starting up this project again. The old dayjob isn't exactly the most creative. I want to show friends I miss them with something special. But I'm opening it up to the blogging world a bit. I have been reading loads about blogger penpals and post lately. So would you like a postcard from me?

The rules are:
  • Each postcard has to have a different picture on the back.
  • If I have a request and an address to send a postcard, I send it. (I promised a friend from Ireland one after I finished the last one and she is now top of the list).
  • Financially and timewise, I can't really do this in a week. So it is a slow process. But I had forty addresses last summer and sent forty postcards. So, if you want one, please be patient.
  • I'm going to do some collages this time. I'm weak for a good collage.
Send an email to me at SaveOurShoes (sos.saveourshoes@gmail.com) with
postcard project in the subject box by Friday 21st May 2010

I love post.
Peace, fi xx

PS here is a review of one of last years postcard recipients gave to my art project.
'it was refreshing to receive something in the post other than bank statements and phone bills. Since I moved to Ireland, the number of times I've received a personalized endearing letter from a person is less than the times I've sang in public. Almost never. Her postcard was filled with drawings, exciting news and funny stories. I suggest all bloggers sign up for this project, as this is an offer that can't be refused. ★★★★★.' - LJ

Ahoy!

Hello everyone!

Errm, well, this is awkward. I haven't been writing here for a while. Do you want to hear my excuses? They're acceptable, I promise. Well, basically I was wrapped up in studying and exams for my finals, and I finished college yesterday...for good. Yipee! What this means for SOS! is more posts from me. I missed you lovely readers.

Anywho, this is a quick outfit post for old times sake. As you may know, I have a dirty habit of going online browsing everyday. My other dirty habit is saving items on ASOS. Unfortunately that doesn't go well with my no spending plan, but this time I decided to treat myself for a few things. I have to agree with Fiona's previous post about full length, or shall we say, maxi skirts and dresses. I love them. It all budded last fall, when I first bought the striped dress from ASOS. That dress is VERY comfy, and very resembles an Acne dress that I really liked. The only difference is that I paid around 30 something pounds, and the Acne one is about 200 pounds. And I prefer my one because it has different striped panels on the side of the dress.

And I don't know, there's something fresh and new about maxis these days. More "clingy" but in the right places, more sexy, more comfy, more summery. With my not so guilty spending habit, I managed to buy 3 maxi items from ASOS recently; one of which is this navy/white sailor striped jersey skirt. I wore it out today for the first time for a sniff of fresh air, especially after I've been stuck at home studying for the past gazillion days.

Also, while I'm speaking about new things.. After one of the exams, I needed a small spending fix and I found the floral printed sunnies from Primark (Penneys) for 1.50 euro. YES. 1 euro 50 cent.. cheaper than a cup of coffee. I also bought them in black floral, so both together is 3 euro..cheaper than a venti caramel mocchiato. There you have it.

Hope all of you have been enjoying the pretty decent spring weather. I finally am. And good luck to those who have their final exams.

And please note, that I don't wear my sunglasses indoors. I just wanted to show you them!

Hello.

I like 'em long.

I have a few maxi dresses at home hidden away but I have been so inspired by all the long skirt outfit posts I've come across lately.
Check out my new blog crush, Tweet.
This picture puts my one to shame. Someone get me a fancy camera please?
Amy from Wolfwhistle also inspires me with her long skirts and dresses.
LJ does it pretty damn well too.

On LJ: dress from ASOS, jacket from Camden lock, scarf from a market in Kuwait, belt from H&M, boots from Public Beware, bag from Miu Miu

Where did this trend originate from? Why do I want to wear long skirts in the summer?! It isn't like they are practical with gladiator sandals. The hem gets wrecked from all the straps. I'm in a state of confusion as to whether or not I want to hitch up my skirt and wear my denim cutoffs instead. I'm wondering is the blast of long floor skimming dresses to do with being frugal? Wear a long skirt in the winter means you can wear two pairs of long-johns underneath? But this doesn't translate to summer. Maxi dresses have been on the back-burner for a while. Now, bangcrash. ASOS has very lust-worthy long BLOCK COLOUR jersey numbers. As does H&M. As does Topshop. I saw so much of it at LFW. It does leave me in a state of confusion. It isn't a summer print. It isn't a warm winter dress. It isn't a gown.
However...
I jumped on the bandwagon though. (I hate being left out).

Long skirt: thrifted, top: dress from H&M worn as top, sonia platforms (yawn, yet again but ICANTGETENOUGHOFTHEM) and random heart print stockings

So how do you feel about this trend sweeping style blogs over?

Where the Murray Magic happens...

I had the pleasure of spending this afternoon in the company of the stunning Francesca Murray in her East London pad. Sunday afternoon's don't get any better. Baking cupcakes, bearded men talk, drooling over the kitchen aid in Frankie's kitchen, drooling in general over her apartment...
Now, I'm going to give you some background to Ms. Murray. She is a very talented jewellery designer, using vintage parts to make one-off pieces (website here). She also has a way with words (blog here). She is also extremely lovely.
We baked a batch of tasty nutella swirl cupcakes with chocolate frosting. It was kinda amazing.

While we gorged ourselves on our baked goodies, Frankie used her superwickedawesome jewellery skills to repair about six million necklaces of mine (broken as a result of over-exertion on the dancefloor). In the background, we had Lady Gaga.
The best part of the afternoon was seeing her room. Where the magic happens.

She was a total bettie

Remember that scene in Clueless?Where Cher introduces her Mom as a "total Betty"? That is, by far, one of my favourite lines in the film. I couldn't find the actual scene on the internet (fail) but here is the trailer. The older I get, the better Clueless gets.
So, do you remember the Lady Luck Rules OK anchor necklaces? I scooped up a "Bettie" one at the Superette Jumble Sale. Super! Ellie from Pretty Much Penniless has got a post about Superette's jumble sale here. I wanted to really rummage but a friend's rain-sodden pumps had dampened her spirits and time constraints meant I just grabbed this enthusiastically and ran.
Photobucket

According to Urban Dictionary, a "Betty" is defined as..
The term Betty refers to a hot chick. One that is attractive, stylish and self confident. A Betty is typically a looker.

I feel like I should use words like "sporadically" now.

Nineties New Look

I still cringe when I think back of an outfit I used adore when I was a young grasshopper. It was a black velvet two piece (trouser-type-things and shirt). Underneath there was a purple glittery rayon long-sleeved high neck t-shirt.

I would like to kick my twelve year old self.
To add insult to injury, I used think I was so frickin' cool. I used go outside in that outfit.
So to hear that 90s are coming back makes me rather apprehensive. I'm taking baby steps to becoming comfortable with this. My favourite high-street fix New Look's AW '10/'11 will help me do this.
Photobucket
Plenty of velvet. Strokey stroke. They will be far less embarrassing to look at photos of, as opposed to my velvet suit.
Photobucket
Floral print+Cord+Clogs= cheapandcheerful instant trend filler. This reminds me fondly of both my old floral docs and these clogs I was not allowed wear as a child as they were "impractical".
Photobucket
This snug satchel shall be mine. Perfect for napping on the tube. I feel a Clarissa explains it all inspirational outfit involving this bag.

These boots are made for walking. Around Helsinki in the cold. They remind me of sensible boots my mum would have liked me to wear and I would have hated. Times have changed.
