Bonjour!

Oh how I love artsy jewelry that makes me chuckle. I came across the work of hélène pé (who also blogs)at Artists & Fleas (held Saturday and Sunday every week on North 6th between Bedford and Berry 12-8). Looking at her portfolio, I see the title 'Je suis un chat', with a painting of a doodled cat scrubbing in the bath. How can that not make you chuckle?

On her stall, she had necklaces, rings and pins that incorporate her artwork into tiny little frames. I loved her cartoonish take on NY when I saw the statue of liberty in a pendant. Other members that appear in her jewelry include cats, owls, and angry screaming whales. I can just imagine all those creatures chatting in french, and being very charming. Or maybe singing something more like this..

See for yourself..

Wouldn't these make the perfect gifts? What do you think? I personally adore them.

Nails on the go!

It's been taking me a while to find a job in NY. But since I still don't have a health care related job, I do enjoy the perks of being able to have my nails colored all the time.

This is my latest nail look inspired by glittery my little pony in easter. Basically, I used 3 products by Barry M: Nail paint in Lemon 307, Baby Blue 122, and a glitter shaker pot in White/Lilac mix.

Photobucket

For the glittery nail, I just put a layer of baby blue nail paint, and dipped it in the glitter pot while wet.

Voila!

Gogo, don't go

I recently received a wonderful package in the post from Gogo Philips and Material PR. Inside was a heavy (in both the physical mass and in the ghetto fabulous sense) gold chain. It is very me; bright, shiny and can possibly get in the way but people like it anyway.

Wearing my vintage trench, a dress from Sarah, my Gogo Philips chain, thrifted satchel and Public Beware ankle boots

I used to be obsessed with an Irish band called The Chalets and they had a song which had the line " Go go, don't go". This song comes to mind every time I wear my new necklace.

Thank you oh wonderful Amy for being generous and awesome. And thank you oh wonderful Jen for taking these pictures. And thank you Sarah for my dress.

My birthday is coming up, and I'll make a wishlist if I want to.

My birthday tomorrow, October 24, when I'll turn 24. 20, 24, 44, who cares anymore? My attitude towards my birthday is becoming more and more 'eh' as I grow older. However, it's still a chance for me to keep my eyes peeled for potential treats for myself. So here goes my list..

1. I've been wanting a doggie since I was a lil kid. Edith and Archie are best friends and up for adoption at BARC.

2. Faber Castell coloring pencils are much needed to continue drawing. All I have here are some Tesco Value pencils, and there a bit crap, but not so shabby for 39 cents.

3. Revlon Matte Suede nail polish in Powder Puff looked so pretty when I tried it on. It's matte but still has some iridescence.

4. Miu Miu studded patent leather loafers at Net A Porter. These shoes will make my feet look ten times better, minimum.

5. ASOS knitted turban, which is unfortunatly out of stock. Fingers crossed they bring them back!

6. Flower pot from the deli that I've been eying for a while. There only 6 bucks, but I'm always too lazy to carry it home.

7. My wonderful world of fashion is on the top of my list. Don't let number 7 fool you. It's filled with beautiful illustrations to color in and lots of crafts and tasks to do, eg creating nail polish and tight designs! This will work out great with the faber castell set.

8. Vintage plastic deer mount from minzer on Etsy. This is too adorable to pass, and will look great on my wall, particularly behind the couch.

And there you have it! What's on your wishlist these days?

It's Christian Louboutin yummmmmmmy.

I took these snaps with my Blackberry, so apologies for the poor quality. I was on in the upper east side on my way to the Whitney museum, when I passed the Christian Louboutin boutique. It was like passing a toy shop that happens to have candies and lollipops on display, if you are reading this and you're 6 years old. I wanted to stand and stare, but I had to run to make it to the Charles Burchfield exhibition in time.

My favorite shoe I spotted was the studded rollerball loafers. I want. I need. I dream. There are similar versions popping out here and there, but none are black with silver metal studs. Does anyone know where I can get a similar pair of loafers on the cheaps?

What's your favorite shoe at the moment?

Well-dressed Spooks

Dilemma... What to dress up as for Halloween. Previous incarnations have been slices of cake and last year I dressed up as a questionable man in a dress.
This year I may take a lesson from Supersweet's genius halloween costume ideas.

Fantastich new clothes plus ghoulish accessories such as a gravestone or a grim reaper's staff. Sorted.
All pictures are taken from Supersweet and all clothes are available from their amazing shop. I even made a *gif for this as they have a *gif on their website, so I can be a little bit more like them...

ALSO if you are looking for something to do on Halloween weekend, why not check out our friend's at Dance Magic Dance Club's Twin Peaks night? It's on facebook right HERE!

What about your Halloween plans? Costumes?

peter rabbit

I am not talking about Beatrix Potter.
Susie Bubble made me aware of Peter Jensen's new collection with Urban Outfitters over in the US of A. There are supercute bunny rabbits and peter-pan collars.

It reminds me of sensible knits my mum would have suggested in our local fancy children's clothes boutique and I would have turned my nose at it. I wanted Why didn't I listen.

Beetles

I have been listening to Warpaint on repeat.

If I had my way, I would stalk around in LA wearing knotted leather sweaters and use my boots as a vase.

Photobucket
Rose knuckle-duster by Sylvie Markovina (available from pixiemarket)
star dress by Neurotica (pixiemarket);
boots by Jeffrey Campbell (getithere pixiemarket)
leather knotted sweater by Horace(see a pattern form? from pixiemarket)

I am totally stoked that I shall be watching Warpaint soon. I am also totally obsessed with pixiemarket lately. Indie bands and designers ftw.
Anyone else going to their gig in Scala?

On the island...

I spent last weekend en famille, driving the magic roads of Connemara in the west of Ireland. While on a magical mystery tour we picked up a hitch-hiker named Andrew. He had a rugged look; beard, weatherbeaten skin, eyes that told a hundred stories. He made my heart melt. This guy has an idyllic life. Once a week he walks about forty dogs for Irish dog shelter charity Madra, in exchange for a cottage hidden in the hills. How perfect a life.

After we drove our new friend to his house, our magical mystery tour continued. With the sound track of Kate Bush "Big Sky", we stopped off to take in the scenery.

Have you ever seen a beach made of coral reef? There is a beach in the Gaeltacht made from broken pieces of coral.

After our roadtrip through the hills, we eventually caught a ferry to Inis Mor, one of the Aran Islands (famous for those cable knit aran sweaters). Leather shorts aren't exactly Island-wear, but I wore them anyway and took the puzzled looks as a compliment.

Ever worn clothes that are inappropriate for the town? Like me and my leather shorts? Hung out with the family lately?

Award for most awesome lookbook goes to.. MUSCHI KREUZBERG

I discovered this random German tshirt label while at Berlin Festival. There was a rather interesting market with local talent, including Muschi Kreuzberg. I have no idea what the website says or means. However, their model speaks volumes to me.

"I don't know what my tshirt means, but, goshdarnit, I'm fantastic."

Anti-design festival

I went to the anti-design festival party a few weeks back. I enjoyed the random art and free for all bring your own beer/art.
Photobucket
I may have had a spot of bother mid-party though.

Scattered around the venue on Redchurch St were snippets of their manifesto. One made an interesting point about internships in the creative industries: really talented people working their butts off for nothing. The website is really interesting and I am looking forward to the next round.

Very Nice Fearne

I have become a converted fan for Very.co.uk since rocking around in my leather shorts. It also lead to me looking at Fearne Cotton's range of clothes. I used have mixed feelings for Fearne (mostly jealous as she works with my new crush Regi Yates). When I had a chance to see her next season collection for Very, I found some of it to be very wearable for a fellow indie wannabe like myself. Floaty and girly sheer maxi dresses, ideal for stomping about shopping centres.

This has lead me to browse her current collection with Very. I have been on a quest for a warm duffle coat. There is a duffle coat with hood and red toggles in her current collection.
